Ancient Colombian Gold tea towel by the British Museum. The focus of this design is a pectoral (a chest ornament similar to a brooch) in the form of a human figure with animal-like features. The pectoral originates from Tairona, Colombia, and dates to approximately 1000 years ago. Made from tumbaga, an alloy of gold and copper, the upper part was created using the lost wax technique and the lower part by hammering. This spectacular object demonstrates the highly developed metal-working skills of pre-Hispanic Colombian cultures.
